A widespread outage has taken out popular AI platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok.
Update 8:49am PT: Services appear to be coming back online, with user reports dropping. OpenAI says that a fix has been applied and services are recovering, Claude says that most models have recovered besides Opus 4.8 and Opus 5, while Grok still just says there is an outage.
Despite a spike in user reports which are now dropping, Google’s Gemini never reported an official outage during this event.
With a spike in reports on DownDetector as well as confirmed outages on their respective dashboards, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and X’s Grok are all down. While AI outages aren’t particularly uncommon, it’s interesting to see all three down at the same time. Cursor, an AI agent, has also confirmed an outage due to the Grok and Claude outages.
Google’s Gemini appears to be unaffected at this time. Despite a spike in user reports around the same time, Google has not confirmed an outage.
The underlying problem might have something to do with Microsoft Azure, which is also seeing a spike in outage reports. All three platforms rely on Azure for cloud services, though there are other providers, including Google, in the mix.
