Google Photos has updated its trash bin timeline, cutting the time from 60 days to 30 days as of September 2026.
The trash bin in Google Photos gives users a chance to recover deleted photos and videos for a limited period of time. That period was 60 days for the longest time, effectively giving users about two months to recover anything that might have been deleted by accident or simply needed to be recovered.
Google has now cut that to 30 days.
The change is rolling out now, as noticed in an app pop-up by the folks over at Android Authority earlier this week. It’s also live on a Google support page where the company explains:
Photos and videos that you delete will stay in your trash for 30 days before they are permanently deleted. Photos and videos that were permanently deleted can’t be restored.
That previously read as 60 days, with the change apparently being effective as of September 4, 2026, according to archived versions of that page. Just a day prior, it still read as 60 days.
