Google Search kicks off the NFL season with Live Game Feeds and fantasy football advice

Tonight’s game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks isn’t just a Super Bowl LX rematch — it’s also the official start of the 2026 NFL season. Google has invested pretty heavily in football over the past few years through YouTube TV, but today, it’s giving Search some big improvements to make following the season a little easier.

Google is adding a Live Game Feed to search, which allows fans and spectators alike to follow along with game developments as they unfold on the field. Any active game will show a “Live” icon in search, and selecting that option shows a recap of what’s happened so far alongside a “dynamic timeline featuring play-by-play updates, top social commentary, key video highlights, and AI-powered insights.” This sounds quite a bit like Google’s alternative to something like Apple’s (truly excellent) sports app, though we’ll have to see how it performs in action first.

Meanwhile, Search is also getting a new carousel display that shows other ongoing games whenever you search for a specific matchup, alongside a stats page that shows player-specific performance like rushing yards, sacks, and YAC, with favorability metrics on their way. Finally, Google has tuned AI Mode to assist with your fantasy football lineup, supporting Yahoo Fantasy and Sleeper account sync directly for real-time suggestions ahead of kickoff on Sunday.

Google’s new carousel view in Search is rolling out to all users globally on mobile. Live Game Feed is available in the US in English and currently supports NFL games, with a broader expansion and plans to add collegiate teams coming later this month. Fantasy football advice in AI Mode is, similarly, only available for English-language users in the US.
