We’re expecting the stable release of Android 17 QPR1 in September. Before that, Google is rolling out an out-of-cycle update to the Pixel 11 series with a September 2026 security patch.
Update 9/9: Following the on-device update that some users received last week, Google has now posted the factory and OTA images for manual install. The four updates for the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold are labeled “Sep 2026.”
Curiously, Google has yet to announce the Android 17 QPR1 update and expected Pixel Drop.
Original 9/1: On Tuesday afternoon, Pixel 11 series users received an OTA update to CD1A.260905.001.A1 (from CD1A.260714.001.A9).
The Android security update level is “September 1, 2026.” (Note: Not September 5.) The install screen has the usual generic security message: “This update fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of your device.”
So far, we have reports of an under 100 MB OTA hitting the Pixel 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold. Google has yet to post factory or OTA images as of Tuesday afternoon.
This is not Android 17 QPR1. Several of the visual changes coming in that release are not yet present, so this is still the initial release of Android 17.
Rather, Google is likely rolling out this update as a hot patch for Pixel 11 issues discovered since last month’s launch. The fact Google did not wait for Android 17 QPR1 should be telling.
