Valve has just released its Lepton tool as an open-source resource for bringing Android-native games to Linux and, in turn, Steam.
On GitHub, Valve has released Lepton as an open-source repository, allowing developers to use the tool primarily for porting games to the Steam Frame. Valve explains:
Lepton is a tool for use with the Steam client which allows games which are exclusive to Android to run on the Linux operating system. Most users should use Lepton provided by the Steam Client itself.
…Lepton is intended to help game developers bring their VR Android games to the Steam Frame. Other usecases are possible, but were not the focus of development and may lack polish.
The Verge points out that some developers are already using Lepton to port Meta Quest games (the Quest runs Android) to the Steam Frame.
The Steam Frame officially made its debut earlier this week, with the Snapdragon-powered VR headset coming in at a cost of $1,059. A waitlist is now open.
