1st Gen Chromebook Pixel
We’ve seen evidence recently that Google has a second-generation Pixel Chromebook, but the Mountain View company has finally (seemingly accidentally) confirmed that the machine is on its way.
Earlier this evening Google published a video on YouTube in which Renee Niemi announced that a limited number of Pixel 2 notebooks will be available in the coming soon. No specific timeframe was given for the release, but Niemi said that because the Pixel 2 is primarily meant as a development platform, only a few would be made.
Soon after publishing the video, Google set it to private, blocking anyone else from viewing it.
The Pixel 2 is said to feature the new “Samus” development board with USB 3.1 type-C connectors, which sport reversible connections and 10 Gbps data transfer speeds. It’s also believed to have a fifth-gen Intel Core M Y-series CPU and a backlit keyboard. Support for a touchscreen interface is also said to be in the works.
The hardware design is expected to remain essentially unchanged, based on a photo attached to an issue on Google’s internal bug tracker.
