OnePlus 3 rumored to launch on June 14th

June is shaping up to be a pretty busy month in the tech world, as it usually is. Google I/O has now passed us, and we can now look forward to what’s next. For Apple fans, that’s WWDC next month. For those who prefer Android we have both Lenovo’s Tech World event and the Moto Z launch, as well as a OnePlus unveiling.

The OnePlus event is set to be the first to take place in a VR world set in space, and will allegedly be happening on June 14th, if a conversation between a customer and a OnePlus CS rep is anything to go by…

Android Authority published a chat sent in by one of its readers who asked when the OnePlus 3 was going to be announced. As if it was common knowledge, the rep told the customer that it will be “fully revealed on June 14th” through the aforementioned VR experience.

Of course, the date was the one piece of the puzzle OnePlus left out of its Loop VR announcement. While we can’t vouch for the validity of the information, the timeframe certainly makes sense. It gives OnePlus time to get all 30,000 Loop VR headsets out to those who claimed them and — more importantly — a good couple of weeks to build up the launch.

With the OnePlus 2, it spent the 2-3 weeks prior to launch teasing individual specifications and features, getting its fans and the media hyping, before officially revealing its “2016 flagship killer”.

This year we’re expecting a device which matches many of last year’s specifications, but with a few vital improvements. While the display is rumored to feature a 1080 x 1920 resolution over 5.5-inches, it’s claimed it will be based on AMOLED technology rather than LCD this year, which should make a huge difference to the viewing experience.

What’s more, the phone leaked in an official-looking press render with a premium, solid all-metal body. Other rumored specs include the Snapdragon 820 processor, NFC and 64GB internal storage.
