Update: We’ve updated this article with our hands-on video from IFA. Watch it below.
After the success of the ZTE Axon 7, ZTE is back with a new, slightly smaller and more affordable Android smartphone. The new ZTE Axon 7 Mini takes all of the best aspects of its older brother while cutting down just a bit to be an even more affordable unlocked option.
The Axon 7 Mini comes with a 5.2-inch, 1080p AMOLED display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, and Android Marshmallow out of the box. It also packs a 16MP camera where the Axon 7 brings a 20MP sensor and brings the same 8MP front-facing shooter.
This device also brings an all-metal body with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, front facing speakers, and the same basic design. Unfortunately the Axon 7 Mini doesn’t include a dedicated DAC like the standard Axon 7 does, although ZTE still says it will provide an enhanced audio experience compared to other devices, and it also steps down a bit on some of the smaller specifications. For example, the Axon 7 Mini packs Quick Charge 2.0, USB v2.0, and a 2,750mAh battery, whereas the standard Axon 7 brings Quick Charge 3.0, USB v3.0, and a much larger 3,250 mAh battery.
The Axon 7 Mini will be available starting this month, although a firm launch date has not been announced just yet. The device will be up for sale in Russia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Japan, Australia, India and Saudi Arabia for €299 UVP. ZTE will also be offering the device for sale in the US, but a price has not been announced.
