October security patch for Nexus devices rolling out, factory images and OTAs now available

It’s the first Monday of the month, and that means it’s time for Google’s monthly slew of security patches.

This month the update comes with two patch levels, one dated October 1st, the other October 5th. The first patch takes care of some of the smaller bugs and issues which Google discovered, the second handling the remaining issues including a handful of critical ones. Users will find the October 5th patch landing on devices, containing the same fixes from the October 1st. Between the two patches Google has made fixed 48 issues including over two-dozen high severity issues and five critical problems. Worth noting this month is that the Nexus 6 has finally made its debut in the club of Nougat devices, although the Nexus 9 LTE is still nowhere to be found.

OTAs with these updates should be rolling out over the coming days, but if you want to install the update manually, you can do so with Google’s official OTA and factory image downloads, all listed below.

• Nexus 6P: 7.0.0 (NBD90X) – OTA
• Nexus 5X: 7.0.0 (NBD90W) – OTA
• Nexus Player: 7.0.0 (NRD91D) – OTA
• Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi): 7.0.0 (NRD91D) – OTA
• Nexus 6: 7.0.0 (NBD90Z) – OTA

If you need help flashing factory images, check out our guide here. Keep in mind that flashing your device will wipe any data on it. This is not worth the hassle for most users, so waiting or sideloading the OTA is usually the wiser option.
