Mobvoi is launching its latest smartwatch, the TicWatch Atlas, alongside its first Wear OS 4 update.
The TicWatch series continues to put out affordable, if somewhat slow-to-be-updated Android watches. The latest entry is the TicWatch Atlas, a $349 smartwatch powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, builds on Mobvoi’s existing lineup with some hardware and software improvements.
Most importantly, the TicWatch Atlas gets Wear OS 4, Mobvoi’s first new smartwatch with the year-old version of Google’s smartwatch platform.
Mobvoi tells us that the Atlas runs that update following an “immediate” out of box update, implying it runs Wear OS 3 until that update is applied. Whether it’s running the update to begin with or needs an update to get started, it’s still a step towards a wider rollout to older TicWatch models (even if it comes as Google and Samsung are rolling out Wear OS 5). Mobvoi first started rolling out Wear OS 4 to the TicWatch Pro 5 in September.
In the software, Atlas debuts a few new features including Fall Detection, a “Heat Map” to see your most active locations, and continued improvements to the TicMotion health tracking suite.
The TicWatch Atlas also has improved battery life, with a 90-hour estimate in Smart Mode and 45 days in Essential Mode. That’s thanks in large part to Mobvoi’s usual dual-layer display. Hardware gets further improvements, with Mobvoi ditching the aluminum/nylon build of previous models for a sand-blasted stainless steel build. And there’s still a sapphire display as well, just like the previous TicWatch Pro 5.
Pricing, despite the hardware upgrades, doesn’t change. TicWatch Atlas is available today for $349.99 in black and silver at Amazon and Mobvoi’s website.
