Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 will indeed be the first devices to ship with Android 16, leak shows

Samsung is setting the stage for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip FE launch – literally – and leaks are still pouring in. The latest leaks indicate that Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 foldable phones will launch with Android 16, becoming the first Samsung devices to run the new OS.

Samsung’s One UI launches have been riddled with unfortunate setbacks. One UI 7 originally came pre-loaded on the Galaxy S25 series, though it took far too long for other devices to see a workable version become available. Since then, One UI 7 has been pushed to most Galaxy devices that were eligible, and Samsung is currently working on One UI 8.

Recent leaks from @MysteryLupin on Twitter/X provide a full spec sheet for all three devices. The spec sheet itself doesn’t come as news, as it was covered earlier in the day. What is new is the mention of Android 16.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip FE do not have Android 16 as the functional OS in the sheet. If that’s to be believed, that means Samsung’s foldables will be the first units to see Samsung’s new One UI 8 in full.

The One UI 8 update is available for some devices in beta, but it isn’t widely available.

This move is unusual, as Samsung doesn’t tend to release new software on foldable devices, opting for flagship releases. This might be an initiative from the company to speed up the One UI 8 rollout and wipe the slate clean from last year.

Samsung previously hinted at the Android 16 launch, though the leak provides some continuity between what Samsung is teasing and what may actually launch.

The spec sheet also notes the same Exynos chip for both the Flip 7 and Flip FE, though that seems a little outlandish, as the same sheet lists similar battery sizes between the two phones. Most of this can be taken with a grain of salt, as Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything. In any case, seeing Android 16 debut on Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Flip series might be a massive reason to get excited.

Samsung is launching the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip FE on Wednesday, July 9, during the company’s Unpacked event.
