Google Search has bet pretty big on AI experiences and, as it figures out the right formula, changes and tweaks continue. Google is now showing off a new change that makes source links a bit more prominent.
Robby Stein, a VP over Google Search, showed on Twitter/X that AI Overviews and AI Search now show a pop-up for groups of links that also include more descriptive previews and prominent link icons.
Stein says:
In AI Overviews and AI Mode, groups of links will automatically appear in a pop-up as you hover over them on desktop, so you can jump right into a website to learn more. And we’ll show more descriptive and prominent link icons within the response across both desktop and mobile.
Apparently, Google says the new UI is “more engaging” and “makes it easier” to access content from around the web.

Since the changeover to more AI summaries, Google Search has been criticized for “burying” links to the broader web, so any changes that make links more prominent and clickable are absolutely welcome.
