Google Maps might let you restyle Street View with Nano Banana, for some reason

Nano Banana might creep into Google Maps, according to a new insight report. The image generation model appears to be in testing in the Google Maps app, offering to reimagine “your favorite” places.

Google’s Nano Banana has been a solid option for AI image generation, and with the upgrade to Gemini 3, it’s only improved.

According to an APK insight report, Google is testing Gemini’s Nano Banana within Maps on Android (via Android Authority). Surfaced code details the feature, which will allow users to “make an image of [their] favorite places in a fun, new style.” The Google Maps app will offer select styles for the user to choose from, which is a consistently seen experience throughout other aspects of the company’s software, like Google Photos.

There’s very little detail to accompany the finding. All we can infer is that Nano Banana may be a part of Google Maps at some point. It makes sense that Google wants to sprinkle its AI models throughout other apps to drive engagement with Gemini as a whole.

Why users would want to restyle Street View remains to be seen. It has the potential to be a fun way for users to reimagine streets they grew up on or places they’ve visited. The feature doesn’t appear to offer contextual input, so customizing generated images might not be possible.

The feature is simply in the backend of Google Maps version 26.09.00.873668274, so there’s no telling when/if it’ll come to the public version of Google Maps.
