ADT is expanding on its Nest-integrated security system, with a new “Live Light” that serves as an outdoor alert.
Available now for all ADT+ customers, the ADT Live Light transforms the iconic static sign into a connected way of extending your smart home’s alert outside. The sign talks to your indoor system and, when the alarm goes off, illuminates.
The idea here, ADT explains, is to help first responders identify your home, as well as help neighbors and others nearby to help figure out if something is wrong. ADT also says it acts as a deterrent, as it can be manually turned on to grab the attention of a potential intruder, possibly detering them from attempting to break into a home.
ADT says:
The ADT Live Light is a smart, connected yard sign that brings visibility to moments that matter. When an alarm is activated, it illuminates to help first responders, neighbors, and community members quickly locate a home in distress and may help shorten response time. Customers can also manually turn on the light for added visibility or peace of mind anytime.
The ADT Live Light can be controlled in the ADT+ app and runs on a battery, so it works wire-free through AAA batteries (though they need to be lithium). Customers can buy a Live Light for $49.99, though it only works if you have ADT’s monitoring plan on your account.
ADT sent 9to5Google a Live Light to check out ahead of today’s announcement, and it works just how you’d expect.
The sign can be mounted on an included ground stake or wall mount and is nearly identical in size to the classic ADT yard sign you might have seen from older systems. It’s definitely bulkier, but it gets the job done, and the light is definitely noticeable, though only once the sun goes down.
Setup in the ADT+ app takes just a couple of minutes, with the hardest part of the process just being the removal of the backplate for getting the battery activated. There’s no Google Home integration, which is a shame, but it’s not like you can go without ADT’s app for this security system anyway.
The Live Light, at least from our first impressions, is a nice add-on for the system, and its $50 price point is well within reason for what it provides.
Will you pick one up?
