Google Wallet adds support for three more digital passport IDs on Android

Following the initial launch in two countries, Google Wallet for Android now supports three more passport IDs.

This lets you add your passport as a digital ID. Support first launched for US passports before expanding to the UK last year.

We’re now seeing the ability to add passports from Brazil, Singapore, and Taiwan. To start the process, tap the ‘plus’ FAB (floating action button) and then ID. Under “ID pass,” select your passport.

This three-step process involves taking a picture of your passport’s info page. You then scan the security chip embedded into the back cover of your passport with your phone’s NFC chip. Finally, you send a brief selfie video to verify you’re a real person.

1. Place your passport on a flat surface.
2. Open your passport’s front cover, back cover or photo page.
3. To scan, make sure that NFC is turned on and remove your phone case.
4. To find the chip, slowly move the back of your phone around inside your passport’s front cover, back cover or photo page.

You can only add one ID pass to your Google Account. The passport can be removed from Google Wallet using the phone app or online at myaccount.google.com.
