If you have ever created an avatar for your WhatsApp profile, you should know the feature is being deleted altogether.
Avatars are being removed from the WhatsApp feature list, starting with the ability to edit. The news comes courtesy of WABetaInfo, which notes users are seeing a new info card in the WhatsApp app with a notice of Meta’s removal. The card also explains that avatars will be removed from WhatsApp profiles in a coming update.

WhatsApp’s miniature versions of users have been around since late 2022, but the recent notice from Meta would indicate the feature isn’t being prioritized going forward. WhatsApp profiles generally showcase profile photos first, with an avatar accessible if the user has one created. The feature was a product of Meta’s push for VR visuals, mirroring the avatars available for Quest users.
The feature extended to stickers, too. Those are being removed in addition to the profile avatars, but timing is unclear. Meta hasn’t disclosed the full timeline for the feature’s removal, but it’s been reported that many users are seeing the warning in-app. When the full removal happens, users will not be able to create, edit, or share avatars with others.
Beyond avatars, WhatsApp’s profile visuals don’t seem to be affected.
