Prototype devices find their way to leaking in a variety of different ways, such as the infamous iPhone in a bar. Now, though, there’s been the finding of what appears to be a Pixel Watch 5 that was lost… in the ocean.
Two hands-on images of this alleged Pixel Watch 5 (45mm) were posted on Twitter/X by Gearbox – the studio behind Borderlands) founder – Randy Pitchford. He explains that the smartwatch was found underwater by a friend who was “scuba diving near the island of St. Martin.”
“Pixel Watch 5” is clearly printed on the bottom of the watch.
The images present no obvious red flags, and Pitchford’s reflection in the image adds a level of authenticity – it’s unlikely he’d post an edited image.
As far as changes go, Watch 5’s design looks identical, and we can’t see anything in the software due to the device apparently having a dead battery. Having been found in the ocean, it’s wild that it functions in any capacity whatsoever. Pitchford says that it still shows the correct time in the low-power state.
Pixel Watch 5 is expected to launch later this year, but any changes have yet to surface. The only real expectation is Snapdragon Wear Elite, which Google has teased as “opens new possibilities, delivering the performance, battery life and connectivity essential for the next generation of Wear OS.” Presumably, that’s referring to Gemini Intelligence.
