Google’s marketing images for the Pixel Watch 5 have sprouted up online, and they dive a little deeper into some of the specs we already knew, while outlining some new ones at the same time.
We recently covered the Pixel Watch 5’s new “accelerated” chip and new watch band, but that leak left some questions as to which SoC the smartwatch would use.
A new leak still leaves some questions in place (via MyMobiles). It claims to divulge the entire spec sheet along with marketing images that Google has yet to release. What might be unanswered is whether the Pixel Watch 5 will carry the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 “accelerated” chip we noted before, or the same SoC as the Pixel Watch 4. The spec sheet does note it has a Cortex-M55 processor.
The 64GB storage capacity holds up, and we can only assume it will be needed for expanded Gemini functionality. The leak also doesn’t mention RAM, but previous leaks claim the watch will get a small boost to 3GB from 2GB.
The marketing material is the real story, covering some of the Gemini features we expect. It specifically calls out proactive suggestions and context-aware replies based on conversations. The images nod to that with a Google Wallet boarding pass suggestion and surfaced contact information in reply to a text.
Google also wants to push health features on the Pixel Watch 5. The wellness image shows off loss of pulse detection with automatic SOS. We also get a visual of Google’s “most accurate sleep tracking yet.” That all folds into the morning insights feature, which acts as a health-focused version of the daily brief you’d see on Pixel phones.
The leaked spec list makes a couple of changes from the Pixel Watch 4 evident. The battery has been increased to 332mAh on the 41mm version and 465mAh on the 45mm variant, as expected. Battery life is unchanged across versions, which might indicate that the new processor is drawing more power. That’s not unexpected, as Google is clearly trying to supercharge Gemini more every generation.
Pixel Watch 5 bands show up in the leaked images, too. These are reportedly the second-generation sport bracelets. They’re made of a different rubber compound than the previously used fluoroelastomer – hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR). They look very similar, but potentially more comfortable.
The leak parallels reports on color and pricing previously. There will be four colors – Natural Silver, Dark Anthracite, Warm Gold, and Pyrite. Warm Gold will be exclusive to the 41mm version. The smaller version will start at $399 while the 45mm edition will start at $429.
Google will launch the Pixel Watch 5 and Pixel 11 devices on August 12 during the next Made by Google event.
