Galaxy Watch 8 starts getting Wear OS 7 in beta

Ahead of a wider stable rollout expected to come later this year, Samsung is finally bringing Wear OS 7 to the Galaxy Watch 8 series in beta.

Available out of the box on Galaxy Watch 9, One UI 9 Watch is based on Wear OS 7. There’s not a lot that’s new, but Samsung is in the process of bringing this to Galaxy Watch 8 owners.

The beta program is now live in Korea, as spotted by Tarun Vats, with registration available as per usual through the Samsung Members app. Other regions should be added in time, with some signs that the US will be supported pretty soon.

Most new features in One UI 9 Watch are health-related, but this update also opens the door to features like Gemini’s Raise to Talk feature on older hardware. Samsung also changed up its gestures on Galaxy Watch 9 with this update, as well as bringing some minor software UI tweaks throughout. Everything newer than Galaxy Watch 5 should be updated, but the exact timeline is unclear at this point.
