For months now, there have been reports of Android Auto’s status bar having a broken icon for cellular signal, but the latest updates seem to finally put an end to the debacle.
The bottom/side bar on Android Auto shows your apps, the time, and your phone’s current battery and cellular signal status through icons. But, for around 4-5 months now, there have been reports of users seeing the cellular signal icon go missing at random, only to come back just as randomly for some.
When it’s missing, it leaves a funny-looking gap in Android Auto.

With Android Auto 17.8, it seems Google may have finally addressed this problem more widely.
A number of users on Reddit all report that the latest update has suddenly fixed the cellular signal icon on Android Auto. That said, reports are limited to just a handful of users, one of which cleared their app cache following the update’s installation.
So, we’ll open this one to you. Has your cellular signal icon returned on Android Auto? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
