Pixel 11 starts testing ‘Call for Me’ to have Gemini phone on your behalf

Following Direct My Call and Hold for Me, Google is introducing “Call for Me” on the Pixel 11 series.

Reminiscent of Google Duplex, this Gemini Intelligence feature is officially an “early experiment” to let Google handle “routine phone calls” to book appointments, place items on hold, and reschedule reservations. Examples include 

• reserve patio seating at a restaurant
• check if a hardware store has a specific part in stock
• move your haircut appointment to next Thursday

Google says it will “respect the time of the neighborhood shops and front-desk staff answering the phone,” and that “calls made by Gemini on behalf of the user represent real customers conducting real transactions.”

Asking AI to speak on your behalf is a big step that requires genuine trust. That’s why we built this experience around user control.

Your Pixel 11 will “call on your behalf using the Gemini app.” Users see a live transcript and can take over at any point.  Gemini will “introduce itself” and “handle the conversation with the person on the other end.” As part of this, it can wait on hold and navigate any automated phone menus.

Google is “starting small to get the experience right.” As of today, an early preview is rolling out to Gemini subscribers using the enrolled in the Phone by Google beta on the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold in the US. More details are available here.
