Someone ported Pixel 11’s Rambler voice-to-text to other Android phones

One of the best new features of Google’s Pixel 11 (and Googlebook) is support for Rambler voice-to-text, and it’s now been ported to other devices – if you’re willing to take the risk, that is.

Rambler on the Pixel 11 series is essentially AI-enhanced voice-to-text. The feature takes what you say and runs it through AI, spitting out a result that includes grammar and formatting while taking out filler words and times you may have tripped over your words. It’s not perfect, as not being able to see a live preview or get word-for-word output can be a little unsettling, but it’s still a huge upgrade to traditional voice-to-text.

That’s why it can be a little annoying that it’s Pixel 11-only.

A developer, though, has managed to port the feature to any other Android phone. “PixelBoard” is a split off of the Gboard app that brings support for Rambler to essentially any other Android phone.

In a post on Reddit (h/t Artem Russakovskii), the developer explains that the project is based on the official Gboard app, just modified to unlock Rambler and other new writing tools.

The app is available for sideloading via the project’s GitHub page, but as always that’s done at your own risk. That said, we installed the app on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 to a complete success. It runs just like Rambler on a Pixel 11. Your results may vary and, again, install at your own risk! The project has other install methods available, including patching the existing Gboard installation on your phone.

It’s still unclear if Google ever plans to bring Rambler to other devices, but third-party mods like this will be the only way to do so for the time being. For those wanting to stick with a Play Store install, Microsoft’s SwiftKey acts as a fine alternative.
