WhatsApp is making it easier to makes calls with everyone by introducing the ability for non-WhatsApp users to join a call without needing an account.
Detailed in a blog post today, WhatsApp no longer requires an account for you to join a call. This works by sharing a link with another user who can then join that call through the web, and it works with calls of all sizes, whether that’s one-on-one or up to 32 people.
Calls with users invited via link remain end-to-end encrypted and all users retain the same core features such as the ability to raise their hand, share their screen, and more. And WhatsApp calls remain free with no time limits.
WhatsApp says:
To get started, navigate to the Calls tab in WhatsApp, select the “+” icon, create a call link, and send it to the people you want to talk to – colleagues, classmates, or tutor – without having to worry about what apps they have. Guests can open the link in their computer browser, type in their name, and join 1:1 and group calls with up to 32 people once admitted by the host. Only people with a WhatsApp account can create a call link.
The post further adds that these links will soon be integrated into Google Calendar and Outlook using a WhatsApp plugin.
