Samsung’s Android 18-based One UI 10 update sounds like it might be a big deal

While Android 17 is still trickling out to Android phones, Samsung is undoubtedly cooking up its Android 18-based One UI 10 update behind the scenes and, based on some early leaks, it at least sounds like it could be a reasonably big one.

One UI 10 rumors call the update ‘significant’

Rumors about Samsung tend to get overhyped. Tiny details get too much attention and there’s always some drama mixed in for good measure.

That said, early rumblings around One UI 10 make it sound like there’s actually something worth being excited about. Ice Universe says that the update will bring “significant changes, unprecedented in nature.” Also having popped up is the term “Galaxy OS,” though there’s not been much weight behind that both in terms of where it came from and that the rumor itself doubles back on that name.

In both cases, though, a big update is claimed to be in the works.

Samsung is overdue for an overhaul, but what will it be?

While there’s not much to talk about in terms of actual features yet, Samsung is due for a bigger update this year.

The last major update to One UI came with One UI 7 back in 2024, bringing with it overhauls to the lockscreen, app drawer, and more. The roots of that update arrived in One UI 6 a year prior, but it was the Android 15 update that brought the welcome overhaul.

Since then, Samsung’s updates have been pretty tame. One UI 8 (Android 16) delivered quality-of-life tweaks and some app updates while One UI 8.5 later built on that with some Liqud Glass clones and more design and functionality tweaks.

One UI 9, based on Android 17, is currently rolling out and it’s one of the smallest updates in recent memory.

What could One UI 10 bring to the table? It’s genuinely hard to know at this point. Virtually every other Android brand has been diving into straight-up Liquid Glass clones lately, and there’s no reason to think Samsung won’t succumb to the same.

Making it harder to know what’s on the way is that we don’t know much about Android 18 itself yet. Google has teased some new graphics features that developers can leverage and it doesn’t feel like much of a leap to assume that Samsung could lean into that. Google teased “delightful mesh gradients” and “progressive blurs” powered by these new features, with the Android Dev Summit set to detail more on that next week.
