Apple has announced a handful of changes designed to improve the privacy of AirTag item trackers. The company is adjusting the time it takes for AirTags to sound an alert after being separated from their owner, and Apple plans to release an Android app for detecting AirTags later this year.
Following in the footsteps of Tile and Samsung’s new Galaxy Tag, Apple unveiled its AirTag tracker this week for keeping track of your keys, wallet, or whatever else you want to attach the $29 device to. You’d be correct in assuming these are designed to work with iPhones, but Apple did include the tiniest bit of functionality for AirTags with Android.
After numerous rumors, Apple finally introduced AirTag during today’s special event. Apple’s item tracker works based on the ultra-wideband U1 chip and relies on the Find My network to work even offline. However, an interesting detail that wasn’t mentioned during the keynote is that even Android users can identify an AirTag in Lost Mode.
