Some rather nice new updates have begun rolling out to lucky Chromebook/Chrome OS users this week with a number of welcomed features including a 32% faster resume (in most cases), instant Netflix streaming, Amazon’s Kindle Cloud Reader app, Print to Docs with Google Cloud Print, and various business-related features.

While the update of course brings the usual “bug fixes and improvements”, it also includes features aimed at education and business users. One of the more notable features is the Citrix Receiver Tech Preview app which is now available to Citrix users via the Chrome Web Store. This will allow you to “access desktop software such as Adobe® Photoshop® directly from your Chromebook”.

.

Other improvements include VPN and support for secure 802.1X Wi-Fi. The update should reach you Chromebook sometime this week.

One Response to “Chrome OS update brings instant Netflix, Citrix Receiver app, Google Cloud Print, and more to Chromebooks”

In order to use Citrix Receiver you will also need either XenApp or XenDesktop to publish the Windows apps or virtual desktops. A simpler and less costly alternative that is available NOW is Ericom AccessNow, a pure HTML5 RDP client that enables Chromebook/ChromeOS users to connect to any RDP host, including Terminal Server (RDS Session Host), physical desktops or VDI virtual desktops – and run their applications and desktops in a browser.

Ericom‘s AccessNow does not require Java, Flash, Silverlight, ActiveX, or any other underlying technology to be installed on end-user devices – an HTML5 browser is all that is required.
