Android Pay adds Walgreens for first retail store loyalty card integration

Walgreens today announced that its loyalty rewards program is now integrated with Android Pay at checkout, making it the first retail store location to support the feature through Google’s Android-based payments service.

To get the most out of purchases, users can add their Balance Rewards card information to the Android Pay app downloaded on Google Play. Before payment, members simply hold their Android device near the PIN pad and the appropriate rewards information is applied. To checkout, members then hold their Android device again near the PIN pad for payment. Android Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards.

Google first announced support for loyalty card programs in Android Pay last year, and it previously launched support for My Coke Rewards only through participating Coca-Cola vending machines. Today’s launch of the Walgreens program is its first through a retail store location.

Users can now add their Walgreens Balance Rewards card through the Android Pay app and use it at checkout at Walgreens’ 8,200 retail stores across the US. Google has more info on getting set up.
