Huawei reportedly updating six devices to Android Nougat/EMUI 5.0 in Q1 2017

Huawei hasn’t always been the best when it comes to software, both in terms of its skin and reliability of system updates. However, along with a massive overhaul to its UI on the Mate 9, the company appears to be pushing Android Nougat to a few of its devices just a bit quicker than usual.

According to two unsourced reports (we’ve reached out to Huawei to confirm), Huawei is planning to update six of its devices from the past year or so to Android Nougat from their current versions of Android, Marshmallow for the most part. The full list follows:

  • Huawei Mate 8
  • Huawei P9
  • Huawei P9 Plus
  • Huawei P9 Lite
  • Huawei nova
  • Huawei nova Plus

Huawei apparently plans to update these devices to Nougat during Q1 of 2017, so we could be seeing updates rolling out as soon as a month from now. Updated devices would, of course, get the usual Nougat features, but also Huawei’s new, cleaner UI, EMUI 5.0. Compared to previous editions of the company’s software skin, EMUI 5 is a breath of fresh air, as noted in our recent review of the Huawei Mate 9.

It’s also worth noting that this list doesn’t include Honor devices since those updates are managed by Honor. We already know the Honor 8 will be updated over the coming weeks, and the Honor 5X will also likely get Nougat.
