Google initiative allows Android phones to act as mobile payment terminals in Kenya

More cool Android news from Africa, this time a Google service called BebaPay which allows Kenyans to pay for transport by tapping an NFC card onto a card-reader – the card-reader in question being an NFC-equipped Android phone

While NFC cards are in their infancy in the USA (by the way, MasterCard, websites that immediately start playing audio from a source below the fold are really annoying), they are already popular in many other parts of the world. The infrastructure required for the card readers is the greatest barrier to adoption, so this approach is a really neat solution.
