In wake of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google editions going on sale this week, Huawei now says it is working on a stock Android device. According to Kevin Ho, Huawei’s handset product division president, speaking to Pocket-Lint, the company is working with Google to create a Google Edition variant of the Ascend P6. Just like the other variants, this device would run stock Android Jelly Bean.
“We are working with Google to analyse the possibility of bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition,” Ho told the blog.
When Huawei introduced the Ascend P6 earlier this month, it argued that its Emotion user-interface was better than stock Android and offered “hundreds of improvements.” Now, it looks like the company is either backtracking on that or there is some sort of miscommunication going on within Huawei.
There’s no word on when we could expect the Google Edition Ascend P6 to launch, or even if it will, as Huawei is simply “analyzing” that possibility with Google and nothing is confirmed.
The Ascend P6 was announced earlier this month and is Huawei’s latest ultra-thin flagship. The device is expected to launch sometime in July in other counties, but the United States release date has remained a mystery.
