The Ubuntu Edge, a handset developed by Linux enthusiasts to run both the Linux-based Ubuntu OS and Android, has beaten Pebble to set a new crowdfunding record of $10.3M, reports TNW.

The Indiegogo page has now accrued over $10.3 million in pledges, toppling the Pebble smartwatch as the highest every fixed crowdfunding campaign. The United States is the highest contributing nation, followed by the United Kingdom – where Canonical also has offices – and Germany …

Sadly, this is still less than a third of the $32M needed to make the project a reality, and with less than a week to go it seems extremely unlikely that it’ll make it.

If it ever happens, it’ll be a high-spec phone, with 128GB of storage, 4GB RAM and dual-LTE – but oddly only 720p rather than 1080p HD screen.

The price will be a fairly hefty $695, and if you want the chance of getting one, you’ll have to sign-up on the Indiegogo page as it won’t go on general sale.
