Usually-reliable source @evleaks has tweeted a photo of what is said to be LG’s new smart TV running webOS, as LG officially announced the world’s largest 4K OLED TV “incorporating LG’s newest smart TV platform.”
While current LG smart TVs run GoogleTV (since rebranded by Google as Android TV), the leaked TV runs webOS, a Linux-based OS originally developed by Palm, acquired by HP and later licensed to LG. It seems safe to assume that the 77-inch one does too.
Model 77EC9800 also incorporates LG’s newest smart TV platform, enabling consumers to enjoy a refreshingly simple and intuitive user experience.
The webOS ‘Cards’ interface appears to be a modified one, with only the currently-running app showing a live preview. While less functional, it does have a much cleaner appearance. It’s believed that LG also plans to launch some smartphones running on the webOS platform.
We’ll of course be at CES and will bring you more news from there.
