Google’s Project Tango gets torn apart, reveals Kinect-like motion sensors

Have you been wondering what makes Google’s 3D mapping Project Tango tablet tick? The tinkerers at iFixit have managed to get their hands on the device and performed a little exploratory surgery on the device in the name of science. According to the DIY repair site, some of Project Tango’s entrails resemble Microsoft’s Kinect motion tracker, which kind of makes sense.

There’s also a 4-megapixel IR rear-facing camera, a custom dual-cell 2,480mAh battery and a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor helping things along. A complex assembly of of bits and pieces, Google’s new experimental tablet scored a 4 out of 10 in terms of repairability, meaning that you’ll probably want to handle it with extreme care. However, odds are that Google won’t be too generous with replacement units, so if you’re able to get your hands on one of these elusive slates, you’ll probably want to bookmark the source link’s guide just to be on the safe side.
