HTC announces GRIP wearable device in partnership with Under Armour

HTC has announced its first wearable device this morning, dubbed GRIP and made in partnership with well-known fitness brand Under Armour. The device will use Under Armour’s UA Record system to keep track of various fitness programs…

Most expected HTC to enter the Android Wear race, but it looks like the company is going to focus on fitness instead for the time being with the launch of this Microsoft Band/Nike FuelBand hybrid. The device features a total of five sensors to improve your workouts, including GPS, but it will notably be ditching the heart-rate monitoring that’s so commonly found in fitness devices today.

It may seem like this is just yet another souped up pedometer, but HTC says that the device packs some special features that it hopes will set the GRIP apart from its competitors. With the device’s GPS, you’ll be able to record the pace and distance of running routes, and estimate the number of calories you’re burning. The device is waterproof and features a P-OLED screen.

The device will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, come in two different colors, and HTC says that it will be shipping for $199 later this Spring.
