Chrome development for Android Ice Cream Sandwich ends w/ Chrome 42 next month

Google announced today that it’s ending Chrome support for users running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich next month. Updates for Chrome on Ice Cream Sandwich devices will officially end following the release of Chrome 42.

It seems like yesterday that Chrome was first introduced on mobile devices to users running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Since then, twenty-four new Chrome releases and three new Android versions (Jellybean, Kitkat and Lollipop) have shipped. We’ve worked hard to make sure each version was faster, simpler and more secure than the last.

Google has an FAQ here and notes that the number of Ice Cream Sandwich users is shrinking making “supporting them in terms of engineering effort and technical complexity is increasingly difficult over time.”

Google expects to release the last update for Ice Cream Sandwich, Chrome 42, in mid-April.
