Google releases Games In Motion, a game to inspire developers with the potential of Android Wear

Google has today released an open source exercise “game sample” to GitHub which utilizes a handful of Android technologies to demonstrate to developers how they can create fun games using Google Fit and Android Wear.

The game, called Games in Motion, is one you’d play while jogging which sends interactive missions and objectives like “An enemy appeared, what do you do?” to your Android Wear device while at the same time displaying your current run statistics — miles ran, duration, etc. — on your phone and logging them to the cloud using the Google Fit API.

Google is releasing this game into the world in hopes that it will inspire similar Android games which use multiple form factors in unison to provide a fun and — perhaps more importantly to Google — unique experience for Android users who buy into the ecosystem. Google has stiff competition in Apple with demand for the Apple Watch high and shipment estimates still sitting around at least 3-5 weeks for most models. It couldn’t hurt to excite developers with the rich potential of Google’s technology when taken full advantage of, and get them to create “wow” experiences which enhance everyday life and get users telling their friends.

The GitHub repository for the game is here and you can learn more about which Google APIs and technologies the company used in it here.
