There have been a number of LG handset leaks making the rounds in recent weeks and months. Whether it’s the LG Nexus or the mysterious ‘V10’, the company’s been unable to keep its upcoming devices from making appearances online. The latest device has seemingly been teased by the company itself on an invite promising ‘Something New’ on September 21. While the device name isn’t revealed, serial leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer believes it to be a mid-range phablet named the ‘LG Class’…
Like the LG G-series handsets, the device referred to as ‘Class’ features rear-placed volume and power buttons. Unlike the G-series phones, however, the button and camera housing protrudes quite obviously from the device, with the LED flash placed within the panel rather than outside on the rear surface. Also unusual is what looks to be a rear-facing loudspeaker placed near the top of the device, rather than near the bottom like the G4 and G4c. The body of the phone looks like it could be made from an anodized metal of some kind, but could quite easily be gray plastic. Digital renders don’t tend to make it easy to predict materials being used. It looks like it could even be both materials; a metal rear panel, with a plastic portion at the top to act as the ‘window’ for antennas/radios.
Little is known about the ‘LG Class’, perhaps an indication that its availability will be limited to specific regions. The fact LG has a separate event taking place in New York on October 1st corroborates that assumption. The device itself is rumored to feature a full HD 5.7-inch display and is powered by the Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, paired with 2GB RAM. It’s also expected to feature 8GB internal storage, a 12MP camera and ship with Android 5.1.1 out of the box. The rumored specs scream ‘mid-range phablet’, placing it alongside phones like the HTC Desire 626 and Moto X Play on the market.
As previously mentioned, I’d be surprised if the device makes its way to western markets like the US and Europe. If it was, you’d expect the company to have already sent out invites to press. Still, we don’t know anything about the smartphone just yet, so we won’t make any assumptions until the rumored LG phone makes its official entry to market.
