After months of teasing us, TAG Heuer — in partnership with Intel — finally announced its Android Wear powered smartwatch in New York. It marks the first time any luxury watch maker has officially unveiled an Android Wear watch, and comes with TAG Heuer’s world-renowned build quality. Despite being a smartwatch, TAG also wanted to make sure the device was a great watch and so ensured that it displayed time very accurately. It claims the watch is accurate to 1/100th of a second.
The watch is inspired by the TAG Heuer Carrera, has a titanium case and a signature strap available in seven different colors. Unlike other Android Wear watches, the TAG Heuer Connected comes with a set of digital watch faces, designed with classic TAG Heuer dials. What’s more, you’ll be able to personalize which nuggets of information you want to see on screen, whether that’s weather, step count or calories burned.
TAG Heuer Connected has a 46mm case, weighing 52 grams and measuring 12.8mm thick, making it similar in size to many pre-existing smartwatches. The grade 2 titanium case is finished using horizontal and vertical fine-brushed lugs, with 3D raised fine-brushed numerals. The TAG Heuer Connected lettering is engraved using silver lacquer, and the entire bezel is sandblasted and carbide coated, and has an anti-fingerprint coating. The entire case also happens to be IP67 certified, making it splash-proof. The vulcanized rubber strap — which comes in green, blue, orange, red, white, black and yellow — has a folding clasp with safety push buttons built in.

For the spec-hungry among you, TAG Heuer’s first attempt at a smartwatch features a sapphire crystal-coated 1.5-inch circular touchscreen display, boasting a resolution of 360×360. It’s built using an LTPS LCD trasflective panel with a pixel density of 240ppi. Inside, there’s a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel processor, paired with 1GB RAM and 4GB storage as well as a 410mAh battery. It also has all the regular built-in sensors like a gyroscope, tilt detection, microphone and haptic engine for vibrations. Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n round off the specs of a device which connects with both Android and iOS smartphones.
As you’d expect from a TAG Heuer smartwatch, it’s not cheap. The company will sell the watch for $1,500, but it does come with some pretty awesome perks. You’ll get a full two year warranty, but as a bonus, once that watch comes to the end of its warranty, TAG Heuer will let you trade it in for a regular mechanical Carrera watches.
