After nearly seven months, Google Fit received an update today that introduces a personal trainer feature for Android Wear. The Fit Challenge app allows users to select a push-up, sit-up, or squat and a difficultly level. It then runs you through a rather detailed tutorial of the exercise you’ve selected, showing text and pictures of how to do it properly…

The activity screen shows you your progress throughout the exercise and tells you how many reps you’ve done and the time elapsed. Helpful encouragements cheer you on, the app gives you the option to pause, and swiping to the right of this screen allows you to repeat the tutorial or reset the challenge. After completing the a workout for the day, a congratulation animation pops up and you’re given a summary of the day’s challenge. Going to the old Fit app on the watch will show you a graph and history of your progress. Results are also synced back to your phone and onto the Fit web client.

In brief testing, I could not get my first generation Moto 360 to register any sit-ups, but push-ups and squats were recorded accurately. Each challenge runs for 30 days with Fit starting you off on five reps a day (and assumably increasing over time). The watch will likely remind you each day to do your challenge. There’s also a new interactive digital watch face to compliment the current analog one. The update is rolling out through the Play Store or you can download the APK now.
