AT&T offering LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition customers a refund due to unidentified ‘quality issue’ (Updated)

Update: LG has now acknowledged the issue and says that it is canceling the rollout of the device worldwide. It also is unsure if it will be available at any point in the future.

AT&T today appears to have started notifying customers that a quality issue has occurred with the recently launched LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition. According to sources, AT&T has notified its retail stores and customers that those who purchased the latest Watch Urbane are eligible for a refund due to the “quality issue.”

At this point, it’s unclear what the “quality issue” is. According to our sources, the issue relates to a hardware problem that directly affects the day-to-day functionality of the device, but it’s unclear what the problem is specifically. AT&T is also allowing users to exchange the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition for another connected watch, but it does not appear to be allowing customers to simply exchange one Urbane for another.

A Reddit user also says that Verizon has put a “hold” on sales of the Watch Urbane 2. While the carrier has not specifically stated its reasoning for halting sales, it’s likely directly related to the same “quality issue” here. Verizon is apparently not delivering the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition to customers who pre-ordered, and at this point, representatives for the company are not clued in as to what is going on.

The Watch Urbane 2 launched on AT&T last week and is the first device to take advantage of the recently added support for LTE in Android Wear. The Watch Urbane 2 has been marketed as sort of the elite Android Wear smartwatch since its original announcement, but this quality issue will definitely put a damper on sales and impressions of the device.
