Sony has had a lot of pricing problems with the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium. It seems like the company thought that its phones somehow stood out from the crowd (which they do in some ways), but it’s clear that the market just doesn’t see it. After reducing the phones’ prices before even launching them, Sony has now dropped them yet again by $50 and $60…
Specifically, the Sony Xperia Z5 32GB (which was launched at $599.99) has gotten a price drop of $60 and now starts at $539.99 shipped in its four color variants on Amazon. The z5 Compact has also received a price drop of $50, down to $449.99 shipped from $499.99 on Amazon, although that price has been seen before at a few different outlets.
Sony unveiled its latest Xperia Z line of phones at a pre-IFA press event in Berlin last year. The Xperia Z5 family includes three phones: The small Z5 Compact, the Z5, and the Z5 Premium with a 4K display. All three phones have very similar specifications, however. You’ll find a 23MP camera with hybrid auto-focus, 2 days of battery life a new power button with a fingerprint sensor, a Snapdragon 810, 32GB of storage, and IP65/IP68 water and dust resistance. They all have Android 5.1 Lollipop while the larger devices have 3GB RAM, and the Compact has 2GB.
These phones launched last year, so that leaves Sony’s upcoming Mobile World Congress event a mystery. The Japanese firm recently sent out invitations to an event on February 22nd. It’s possible that we could see a brand new Android Wear smartwatch or perhaps they might announce the recently leaked C-series device.
