Google is announcing two notable new features for Gmail for Android today, including support for rich text formatting and a new “Instant RSVPs” feature that offers one-tap access to responding to Calendar invites.
These days, over two-thirds of all Gmail users check email with their phones, so having a rich and really fast mobile experience is more important than ever. That’s why today, we’re introducing two new Android features to help you manage your inbox on the go: rich text formatting and instant RSVPs.
For the new rich text editing features, Android users will now be able to add highlighted, colored, underlined and bold text in emails. The new editing features are accessible from a row above the keyboard when composing an email next to other commonly used functions, as pictured in the screenshot of the updated Gmail app below to the right.
And for the new Instant RSVPs feature, users will have access to a one-tap response from within the Gmail app. So when you get a calendar invite — either from Google Calendar or Microsoft Exchange — you’ll now get quick buttons within the email to respond Yes, Maybe, or No, meaning you won’t have to switch to another app and interrupt your email flow. You’ll also get a quick glance of your upcoming calendar entries to help you make your decision, as pictured above in the screenshot to the left.
The new features are rolling out today for all Gmail for Android users. The updated app should arrive on the Google Play store any minute.
