Troubled LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE makes a comeback at AT&T

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE — yeah, that’s a mouthful of a name isn’t it? — is back. The Android Wear smartwatch that was supposed to debut the latest version of Google’s smartwatch software all the way back in November of last year was pulled from sale just days after it became available. LG eventually confirmed that the device was suffering a quality issue with a display component, but it was unclear what the device’s future would be.

Now, it seems that the Korean company has relaunched the LTE-enabled smartwatch…

As of the time of this writing, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE is now once again available at AT&T with a pre-order price of $199.99 with a qualified service plan. The site suggests that orders placed today will ship sometime around the end of the month — Mar 29, 2016 – Mar 30, 2016 to be exact.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the device, it’s a variant of LG’s previously-launched LG Watch Urbane Android Wear smartwatch, but it was the first Android Wear device announced to feature LTE capabilities. Basically, the premise is that you should be able to do pretty much anything you would do with an Android Wear watch — use it to make and receive calls, send texts, and use a variety of smartwatch apps — without the need for a tethered phone.

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE features a 1.4-inch P-OLED round with Gorilla Glass 3 in a 316L stainless case with a brushed metal finish. The device has three quick-access side buttons as well as silicone based watch bands in various colors and a built-in heart-rate monitor. Purportedly capable of staying alive for two days, LG has equipped the 2nd gen Urbane with a 570mAh battery.
