Todoist, one of the best productivity apps released for any platform, has been updated to bring more smarts to its Android app. Unlike the last major update, this version doesn’t include a massive visual overhaul. Instead, the team focussed on bringing more intuitive and productive methods of adding, searching and filtering your projects.
Perhaps the most important new feature is the ‘Quick Add’ ability. The app can now recognize assignees and projects. In the words of Todoist:
That means you can now type your task name, set a due date and priority level, add a label, pick a project, and delegate the task to a coworker all in one line without ever having to open a second screen. It’s like asking a personal assistant to take care of the details so you can focus on moving your work forward.
Now, when you type a hash symbol in the Quick Add field, a list of projects appears and you select the desired project from those options, or continue typing the name to create a new project. Using the ‘+’ symbol and typing colleague’s names, you can add collaborators to the task quickly and simply. All without leaving that screen. Likewise, using ‘@’ selects a label.
Using a combination of natural language recognition, and the aforementioned use of ‘+’, ‘@’ and ‘#’ symbols, you can type entire sentences, and Todoist knows how to translate that information into labels, projects and collaborators.
As well as a beefed up Quick Add capability, Todoist for Android now supports keyboard support, so that you can navigate the app as well as typing comments and tasks without ever taking your hands off the keyboard.

On a more minor note, there are a couple of visual and UI improvements. There’s a new Pinch-to-add feature which lets you add a task in between two other existing tasks just by pulling them apart. It also finally has a ‘task sort’ feature which lets you reorganize tasks by name, date, priority, or assignee with just one tap. As a moral-boosting bonus, there’s now a new #TodoistZero screen at the end of the day too, providing you make it to the end of the day and complete all the scheduled tasks for that day.
As well as those features, Todoist has improved syncing speeds, added ‘undo’ options to almost every action, fixed a photo rotation issue, included emoji shortcuts and made sure that when you dismiss notifications on another device, they vanish from your Android phone/tablet too.
You can download the new Todoist app for Android from the Play Store.
