Just a couple of weeks after announcing the latest R-series phones, Oppo has followed up with the new F1 Plus for African, Southeast Asian and European markets. Like most competitive Android smartphones these days, it has a flat iPhone-like all-metal rear case with rounded edges, and is practically identical to the R9 and R9 Plus revealed last month.
Like its design, the spec-list reads like the average, competitive, mid-tier phablet. The 5.5-inch AMOLED panel up front is coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and boasts a resolution of 1920 x 1080, giving it a pixel density of 401ppi. Inside, you’ll find a generous 4GB of RAM and an octa-core Helio P10 processor made by Mediatek, clocked to 2.0GHz. This sits alongside 64GB of storage, and a fast-charging 2,850mAh battery.
Again, very much like most phones on the market these days, you’ll find a dual SIM card tray, where the second slot doubles as a MicroSD card bay. Storage is expandable to 128GB.
If there’s one feature that stands out, it’s the front-facing camera. Oppo calls this phone the ‘selfie expert’, and it’s easy to see why. The front-facing snapper boasts a 16MP sensor and a f/2.0 aperture. Because of this fast aperture, Oppo claims it pulls in four times more light than other smartphones, and it uses ISOCELL technology to ensure there’s no interference between pixels.
