Taking into account all the leaks and rumors we’ve seen over the past few weeks regarding the upcoming 4th generation Moto G, it’s safe to assume the device is going to be announced relatively soon. Corroborating those leaks we’ve already laid our eyes on, another batch of detailed renders has found its way online.
The latest leak comes courtesy of well-known leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer on Twitter who published a collection of images showing the device housed in a rugged, black, third-party case. Although this chunky tire-like accessory covers most of the back of the device, we can still see that a number of features match those we’ve seen before.
The front fingerprint sensor isn’t shown in these images, but the design seems exactly like the renders and real-life images. Most notably, the redesigned camera housing on the back is the same. As we’ve previously noted, it appears as though the pill-shaped panel is much smaller this year, and is made from a sheet of black glass. The camera is placed in the center, above the dual-LED flash and below what looks like a sensor of some kind.
Perhaps the only confusing element of the leaks and rumors so far is whether or not the Moto G 4th gen will have a fingerprint sensor, or if that feature is being kept as a unique selling point of the rumored ‘Plus’ model.
Rumors have previously indicated we’ll see the new devices announced and launched in July, but Motorola has seemingly sent out invitations to media in India for some kind of launch event on May 17th.
Given that the Moto G is an internationally popular device, it’s unlikely that it would see a launch in India without (at the very least) simultaneous satellite events across the globe. As far as we know, no western market media has been sent any invitation, suggesting this could be for a different device. There is some discussion suggesting that the new Moto E could make an appearance in India first.
Regardless of what actually transpires during the New Delhi event, we can’t imagine a refresh of the Moto smartphone lineup is far off. Motorola typically hosts unveiling events in July, with devices hitting the market in the months following. Unless we get an invite saying otherwise, we’ll expect the same this year.
