As part of an update to the Outlook application for Android, Microsoft has announced today the addition of a new Android Wear watch face. This new watch face brings email on your wrist to a whole new level; rather than simply giving you notifications and simple actions from Android Wear’s notification feed, everything can be seen and accessed from the watch face itself. Let’s take a quick look…
After you have it set up, you’ll see your next calendar event as well as a total number of new emails you might have waiting for your attention. Around the edges, as you can see below, the new watch face gives you an easy way to see calendar events taking place throughout the day. Also, in the center, you’ll of course find the time and date just as you would with any other watch face on Android Wear.
The watch face looks great in my opinion and I can see this being an extremely useful tool for anyone who relies heavily on Outlook calendars throughout the day. The colors on the watch face will match up with the colors of your events, or you can customize them to your liking in the watch face settings.
By tapping on the center of the watch face you’ll have access to your calendar events in a chronological list. There aren’t any actions you can take on these, but you can read each event’s description, see where they’re taking place, and see other contacts who are going.
As for emails, you’ll of course be able to read the entire message, but you’ll also be able to perform the same actions as in the full app: archive, schedule, reply, flag, and delete.
The app is rolling out now to all Outlook users on Android although you may need to re-sync your apps to get the watch face to appear on your smartwatch. You can find the Outlook app for Android on the Play Store.
