Expanding on their collection of budget friendly Android smartphones, Huawei has today announced the Honor 5A, a new $100 smartphone for the Chinese market. This device will ship in two variants, one for China Netcom, the other for remaining markets.
The China Netcom variant will ship with a Snapdragon 617 processor while the other variant will come with Huawei’s own Kirin 650, however both are octa-core CPUs. Both will also come with 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and support for microSD cards.
At a glance, this is all pretty similar to the Honor 5X, however there are some slight differences. First of all, the display is downgraded to a 5.5″ 720p panel and the all-metal build is ditched in favor of plastic. You’ll also be missing support for NFC, a fingerprint sensor, and support for 802.11ac WiFi.
Out of the box the Honor 5A will run Android Marshmallow and it also comes with 13MP/5MP cameras. White, black, blue, pink, yellow, and gold variants are already available for purchase in China for the low price of just ¥ 699, about $106 USD. Not bad huh?
Along with that, today Best Buy has started selling the Honor 5X both in stores and online, of course for $199. All three color variants (Gray, Silver, and Gold) are available today via Best Buy’s website with in store availability in some locations. Most Best Buy locations here in the US should have the phone available in store by next week.
In case you need a refresher, the Honor 5X packs a 5.5″ 1080p display, Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM, Android Lollipop, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, and a fingerprint sensor all with that gorgeous metal build. Huawei promised that the device would pick up Android Marshmallow, and while they haven’t quite lived up to that just yet, this is still a great smartphone option, especially with CyanogenMod.
