Goodbye productivity! You can now play ‘Solitaire’ and ‘Tic-tac-toe’ right in Google Search

From Doodles marking significant occasions to countless Easter Eggs, Google is quite a whimsical company. The latest fun additions add solitaire and tic-tac-toe right into Search on both mobile and desktop. Just try not to get too distracted.

Solitaire opens in a small window on desktop, while it is full screen on mobile devices. There is an easy and hard mode, with stats that detail how much time has elapsed, score, and number of moves. There are also controls for volume, undo, and starting a new game. Unfortunately, your progress is not saved and exiting starts the game all over, but what more could you expect from an Easter Egg game? It’s like the best thing from Windows XP right in Search.

Meanwhile, tic-tac-toe just resides as an in-line Search card. There are some really lovely animations and users can switch between ‘x’ and ‘o’ with a running count of wins for each side. The AI behind this game is quite easily beaten, but will likely increase in difficulty over more rounds.

Solitaire — a game of patience — and the simpler tic-tac-toe were specifically chosen as they are two of the oldest and most popular games of all ages. To access either, all you need to do is search for solitaire and tic-tac-toe. It works on desktop, the Google app on Android, and even the mobile web. I’ve found the overall experience to run quite smoothly with animations on any device.
