Back at I/O this year, Google announced not one, but two new communication apps. The video calling service, Duo, has already been released and everyone’s on the edge of their seat waiting for Allo to become officially available. So of course Google is planning to give Duo an update first…
After making a somewhat quiet appearance in the Play Store among suggested apps, Allo was again rumored to finally launch this Wednesday, September 21st. However Justin Uberti, one of the googlers in charge of Allo and Duo, seemingly denied that such rumor had any validity, and offered some insight on Duo instead.
The hype around Allo is real, and Uberti knows this well, which is why he started off his tweet with a mention of “the release you’ve all been waiting for”; as it turns out, however, the Duo 2 he’s talking about is very much real, and “rolling out this week.” APK mirror already has the .apk file if you want to try it, with the change log only mentioning “bug fixes” for now.
While the official release notes with the update’s “many important fixes” is “coming soon,” this does not entirely rule out the chance to see Allo actually surfacing before the week ends. We hope that’s the case.
